We are back with another action-packed quarter of product updates. Q2 2026 was all about helping developers and businesses manage increasingly complex route planning and optimization challenges with greater flexibility, efficiency, and accuracy. From launching our brand-new Weather Forecast API to making Route Optimization API smarter and more adaptable.
Beyond these major updates, we rolled out several enhancements across our Map Data APIs, Navigation Mobile SDKs and Route Planner App. These improvements simplify development, provide deeper operational visibility, and make it even easier to build and deploy intelligent location-based solutions at scale.
Here’s a look at everything we shipped in Q2 2026.
Route Optimization API
Route optimization goes beyond finding the shortest path to cover point A to Point B. It’s about balancing operational priorities and business constraints while ensuring an optimized route plan is generated. This quarter, we have introduced powerful new constraints that give product teams greater control over how routes are generated, making it easier to optimize for efficiency while accommodating real-world operational requirements.
Soft Constraint Penalties
Not every routing rule should be treated as an absolute restriction. With the introduction of Soft Constraint Penalties, you can now influence optimization decisions without making them mandatory.
Configure penalties for:
- Deadhead travel, to minimize unnecessary distance and drive time between jobs.
- Vehicle overtime, to discourage routes that exceed driver shift limits.
- Task lateness, to prioritize on-time arrivals while allowing controlled flexibility when needed.
Instead of rejecting feasible routes that violate these preferences, the optimizer evaluates multiple solutions, assigns penalties where applicable, and selects the route with the lowest overall cost. This enables more practical route planning when balancing competing operational objectives.
LIFO for Compartments
We have added support for LastIn, FirstOut (LIFO) task sequencing for compartment-based deliveries. Designed for fuel distribution and other compartment-based logistics operations, this constraint ensures that loading and unloading sequences align with how vehicles are physically organized, helping reduce manual planning while improving operational efficiency.
Optional Start/End Location in API & Route Planner App
You no longer need to specify a start or end location when configuring vehicles in the Route Optimization API or Route Planner App.
This added flexibility allows the optimizer to determine the most efficient route without being anchored to predefined locations. It’s particularly useful when vehicle starting or ending points are unknown beforehand or when planners want the optimizer to generate the most cost-effective sequence of tasks based purely on operational efficiency.
Depot with Relations
Depots can now be used alongside task relations in the Route Optimization API. Previously unsupported, this enhancement enables more practical routing scenarios where depots, pickups, deliveries, and task dependencies must all be considered together. The result is greater flexibility for modeling complex logistics operations while reducing manual workarounds.
Route Optimization Software
We have continued to enhance the NextBillion.ai Route Optimization Software with features that make planning, editing, and analyzing routes faster and more intuitive. From map-based task management to deeper operational insights, these updates are designed to help dispatchers and operations teams make confident routing decisions with minimal effort.
Map-Based Route Editing for Single & Bulk Operations
Managing tasks is now more visual than ever. You can add, edit, and organize both single and bulk tasks directly on the map, making route planning faster and reducing the need for manual data entry. Whether you’re planning a handful of deliveries or thousands of stops, the map-first experience helps you build and refine routes with ease.

Configure Depots Directly in the Route Planner
The Depots feature is now available directly within the Route Optimization Software. Previously accessible only through APIs, users can now configure depots alongside Jobs and Vehicles using the application’s intuitive interface. This makes it easier for operations teams to model real-world routing scenarios without writing code.
Enhanced Timeline & Analytics Views
We have upgraded the Timeline and Analytics views to provide better visibility into optimization results. The enhanced Timeline offers a clearer representation of route execution, while the Analytics dashboard surfaces key operational metrics that help teams evaluate route performance, identify inefficiencies, and make data-driven planning decisions.
Expanded Integration Coverage
Our Samsara integration now supports customers across the European Union and Canada, extending seamless fleet connectivity beyond North America. Businesses operating in these regions can now synchronize vehicle and operational data more efficiently, enabling smoother dispatch and fleet management workflows.
New Product Launches : Weather Forecast API
Weather plays a critical role in transportation and logistics. Unexpected rain, snow, high winds, or extreme temperatures can impact delivery schedules, driver safety, field operations, and customer experience. That’s why we are excited to introduce the Weather Forecast API, our latest addition to the NextBillion.ai platform.
The Weather Forecast API provides hourly and daily weather forecasts for any location, allowing developers and operations teams to incorporate weather intelligence directly into their applications and decision-making workflows. Instead of reacting to weather disruptions, businesses can proactively plan routes, allocate resources, and adjust schedules based on forecasted conditions.
Build Weather-Aware Applications
With the Weather Forecast API, you can power a wide range of weather-aware use cases, including:
- Delivery Scheduling: Adjust delivery windows and ETAs based on expected weather conditions to improve on-time performance.
- Field Operations: Plan technician visits and outdoor jobs around weather forecasts to enhance productivity and worker safety.
- Fleet Routing: Optimize routes by accounting for adverse weather that may impact travel times or road conditions.
- Trip Planning: Deliver more reliable travel experiences by helping users plan journeys around upcoming weather conditions.
By integrating weather intelligence into your location workflows, you can improve operational efficiency, reduce disruptions, and deliver a better experience for both drivers and customers.
Product Enhancements
Beyond our new product launches and major routing capabilities, we have introduced several enhancements across our APIs, SDKs, and developer platform. These updates are designed to improve performance, expand integration capabilities, and give developers more flexibility when building location-powered applications.
Driver Assignment API
The Driver Assignment API is now more scalable and flexible with several important enhancements:
- New asynchronous endpoints allow you to generate optimized driver assignment plans without waiting for synchronous responses, making it easier to handle large-scale assignment requests.
- Relaxed routing filter limits provide greater flexibility for real-world operations:
- Search radius increased from 10 km to 200 km
- Pickup ETA expanded from 1 hour to 8 hours
- Driving distance increased from 10 km to 700 km
- Retrieve assignment plans anytime after they have been generated, eliminating the need to keep long-running requests open.
- Added support for mode: truck in Fast mode, enabling optimized driver assignments for commercial vehicle operations.
Together, these enhancements help businesses process larger assignment workloads while accommodating more diverse operational scenarios.
